2020 Assembly and Convention will be held virtually
Assembly will be Monday 6 to Thursday 15 October via email and Zoom meetings, and is hosted by the Queensland OA Intergroup.
Convention will be hosted and run virtually on Sat 17 and Sun 18 October. To register or read more details, please visit click here to visit the Queensland Intergroup website.
Generally, assembly provides a forum for Overeaters Anonymous Region Ten Intergroups to discuss issues, swap ideas, and conduct the formal business of the region. Region Ten consists of Service Bodies and Intergroups in New Zealand, Australia, the Far East, South East Asia, and the Western Pacific Basin. Observers are welcome at Assembly, however only elected representatives may vote.
Convention is an opportunity for fellowship, as members from all over the region share their experience, strength and hope. There will be workshops, meetings and speakers through out the weekend, celebrating the many ways we practice these principles in all our affairs.
This year the convention includes sessions on the following:
- Maintaining abstinence in times of crisis
- Body image, relationships and sexuality
- Building a relationship with a higher power
- Long timer abstinence
- Service in a virtual world
- Q&A (Ask it basket)
This will be an excellent event and a great way to get extra program into your days, as well as meet other members and can be a brilliant opportunity to find a sponsor.
The Share-a-thon is to be held on Sunday September 19, 2020, and will be held virtually via Zoom.
A Share-a-thon is a day full of meetings – some meetings have a theme and some have a specific kind of structure like a workshop or literature meeting.

The Share-a-thon is a great way to meet other members, find a sponsor and get recovery.

I.D.E.A. – International Day Experiencing Abstinence
Since 1992, on the third Saturday in November, members of Overeaters Anonymous worldwide observe an International Day of Experiencing Abstinence (IDEA). The OA Fellowship created IDEA Day to encourage members and newcomers to abstain from compulsive overeating. This year IDEA Day is celebrated on Saturday 18th November.
This day recognises the strength of the Fellowship worldwide. On the last Saturday in February, at 11:30 a.m. OA members pause to reaffirm the strength inherent in OA’s unity.
12TH STEP WITHIN DAY
On the 12th December to encourage OA service boards, meetings and individual members to reach out to those within the Fellowship who are still suffering from eating behaviours.
Celebrated on the third Saturday of January each year.
